Pick of the Month – September 2009 AT Pick: ScreenDoors 2000 Instead of pushing keys on a real keyboard, simply point and click on a picture of a keyboard on your computer screen. ScreenDoors 2000 acts just like the real keyboard typing directly into any application. A list of predicted words actually guesses what you are typing to help speed entry. Clicking can be performed a number of different ways. You can select a key by clicking on it using the mouse or a physical switch. You can also select by "dwelling" or simply pausing over a key to make your selection. A visual cue is used to indicate the dwell time, by "filling" up the key. Once the fill reaches the top of the key, a click is automatically performed. Some of the many features: * Full Keyboard Emulation: Floats above any window and emulates the physical keyboard in nearly every way possible. * Self-Learning Word Predictor: Type faster by selecting words that automatically learn from your writing patterns. As you type a separate window displays possible words that you are typing. The more that you use the software, the better the prediction becomes as it learns your style of speech. It will also do "next word" prediction. * Resizable: Fit the keyboard to any size you like on your screen - big, small, or in-between. Simply click on the lower right corner, and "drag" the keyboard to the size that you wish. * Key-Size Selectable: Handy for creating spaces between keys to prevent accidental keystrokes. * Number of Keys Selectable: Use the full 101 keyboard, or a smaller one similar to what a laptop has to maximize your screen space. * Multiple Layouts: Type faster with alphabetical and frequency layouts (as well as the standard qwerty).
