Mark Reeves Communicate and Have a Real Life I don’t speak but use AT (assistive technology). I share my struggles along the road to communication independence. (Why do you do this?) To give others like me hope that they can find the means to communicate and have a real life. (How have you changed?) I have become a real person because I can type my thoughts and people accept me more now. (What are you most proud of?) The best part of being a mentor is the mentor group as they offer hope to those who don’t have communication skills and show types of devices to use. (What is your biggest challenge?) Getting out to the general public so they can learn about the mentors and all of us who use AAC and AT. (What’s the one experience you’d like to share with someone who is thinking of doing this?) Believe in all our abilities and not our handicap!! Mark Reeves 6/23/07
